Tomorrow is the 4th of July, Independence Day. While we all (more or less) know the history of the American Revolution, one might wonder how American women of the time took care of their skin.
Summer has officially started, and while warm weather is a nice change for those living in the more temperate climes, the increased intensity of sunlight can cause damage to the skin in the form of sunburn in the short-term and loss of smoothness and elasticity, as well as hyperpigmentation, in the long term. Fall is officially here and it’s one of my favorite seasons in the year! I not only look forward to cozying up in sweaters and boots, but also to the delicious seasonal foods with which we celebrate the holidays. I recently visited Hawaii and while snorkeling, noticed far too many of the naturally gorgeous and bountiful coral had mostly either turned white or died off. The culprit here is a chemical known as benzophenone-2 (BP-2) used in most sunscreens. Usually something that is always an extremely beneficial no-brainer, sunscreen has been harming coral reefs all over the world.
